Toward a Messianic Creed

The below is an attempt to preserve the Orthodox core of the Apostolic Faith along with the Orthodox core of Judaism. What is produced is largely a combination of the classic Apostles’ Creed and the 13 Principles of Jewish Faith by Maimonides (Rabbi Moses ben Maim aka Rambam). Where the two are in conflict, the latter is amended in line with the B’rit Chadashah (New Testament). While I don't necessarily believe this will really take off and become a set standard as with the Apostle's Creed or the 13 Principles, I do believe it expresses the basic and core principles of Biblical faith.
Creed comes from the Latin, credo, which means "I believe." It is simply an affirmative statement. Similarly, the 13 Principles of Jewish Faith also begin with ani ma'amin, which means the same: I believe. Thus the two cohere well.
  1. I believe in the Perfect, One True God, Who is the Almighty Creator of the Heavens and the Earth, and all that exists, Who is First and Last, and before Whom are no other gods.
  2. I believe in the Lord Yeshua Messiah, Who is the Divine Son of God, born of a virgin, conceived by the Ruach HaKodesh, suffered under Roman persecution, was crucified, died, buried, and resurrected on the third day, ascended to the Right Hand of the Father, and will return to judge the world and rule His Kingdom.
  3. I believe in the Ruach HaKodesh, Who indwells believers and empowers them to walk in the ways of Adonai.
  4. I believe in the authority of the Scriptures as contained in the Tanakh and the Apostolic Writings, in the undying and unchanging Words of God through His prophets and apostles, and their ongoing validity and applicability today.
  5. I believe in the Holy Congregation of God, the Body of Messiah, wherein Jewish and non-Jewish believers past and present are united with one another through common faith.
  6. I believe in the forgiveness of sins through the work of Yeshua Messiah.
  7. I believe in the resurrection of the body and everlasting life.
